Overview
Subclass 300 (Prospective Marriage) is the engagement visa: it brings you to Australia to marry your Australian partner, then rolls into the onshore Partner visa pathway to permanent residence.
Defining features:
- For engaged couples — not yet married, not yet de facto.
- ~15 months validity with full work rights.
- Reduced Partner charge: lodging the 820/801 as a 300 holder costs ~AUD 1,560 instead of the full charge.
- Three stages to PR: 300 → 820 (provisional) → 801 (permanent).
Detailed legal content (current validity window, evidence standards) needs verification against current rules. Book a consultation to compare the 300 against a direct Partner application for your situation.
